Mukteshwar Mandir, located in Doongh Village, Shahpurkandi, Pathankot, is just 22kms away from the city. These caves, dedicated to Lord Shiva, sit by the river Ravi and hold a special place in Hindu mythology. Legend has it that the Pandavas stayed here during their exile, making these 5500-year-old caves as old as the Mahabharata itself.
Perched atop a hill, the temple houses a beautiful marble Shiva lingam and a copper yoni. Surrounding the lingam are idols of various Hindu deities like Brahma, Vishnu, Hanuman, Parvati, and Ganesha, adding to the sacred atmosphere.
This spot is often called Mini Haridwar, where those unable to journey to Haridwar for ash immersion can perform the ritual in the Ravi River at Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple.
Excitingly, the temple is open 24/7, welcoming devotees at any time. Catch the divine aura during morning aarti at 5:30 AM and evening aarti at 7:00 PM. Plus, enjoy langar from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day.
